A Little Q & A with Hair and Makeup Artist Steven Lake

steven_lake_hairMy most favorite thing in the world is getting to know people behind a brand. Many times your brand can be yourself…as a makeup artist, hair stylist even beauty blogger. So when I recently wrote about Steven Lake’s tips to looking good in pictures on Makeup Minute, I popped him over 3 short questions to get to know a little more about him. They are short and sweet, but I’m thankful Steven took the time to answer them.

Shannon Nelson: You and I both grew up in New England, what’s it like making the transition from the small town-like atmosphere of Massachusetts to the larger than life world of Los Angeles?

Steven Lake: Exciting! Luckily I made the move to LA in my early 20’s. I was fearless and adventurous. It was scary too, I knew no one!

Shannon: You come into contact with celebrities for your profession…is there any one that stands out that you were wowed by?

Steven: In the beginning I was wowed by all of them! When “The Simple Life” came out I worked with Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie. I remember doing an appearance on Hollywood Boulevard with them and getting mobbed by hundreds of fans! That was “Whoa and Wow” all at once!

Shannon: For hair and makeup, is there any one particular style you tend to favor?

Steven: I tend to favor subtle make up that enhances one’s beauty and for hair I love sexy and tousled.

  1. I love seeing those success stories of people who took the chance and moved to LA when they were young. Risk takers…you’ve got to love that! And I love Steven’s hair approach…sexy and tousled. Couldn’t agree more!
