Pearson Knight’s Favorite Hair Trends from Fashion Week

pearson_knight

If you don’t know who Pearson Knight is, you should. He could be found at a number of runway shows this past fashion week styling hair for some of the best designers of the Fall/Winter 2009 season. If his boyish good looks don’t rope you in (because seriously ladies, look at him!), then his eye for detail and his talent to make a complicated hairstyle look effortless, will. As a Master Stylist at Juut Salonspa in Downtown Minneapolis, it’s Pearson’s ability to have each customer leaving his chair raving about his transformative hands that has him on the short list of great talents in hair.  I asked Pearson if he would share with you some of his favorite looks from this past New York Fashion Week. Here’s what he had to say…

Well I have been inspired this season once again! I had a lot of fun working with the designers and teams. My favorite show was William Rast due to the extreme talent behind it: Justin Timberlake, who we all know has style, and my favorite high fashion men’s designer, J. Lindeberg. I enjoyed meeting and working with both of them. The hair was simple, but went great with the style and feel for the clothing. Beach wave soft movement for the girls and a modern James Dean look for men.

My favorite clothing this season was Rodarte. I believe the sisters are ahead of their time. I have worked with them for the last couple of years sponsored by Aveda. The looks for hair are always very technical, different and fun to create. This season the clothing reminded me of the movie Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It was so refreshing to see something so off the normal path, that it was amazing.

Christian Siriano
My favorite hair to do this season was at Christian Siriano’s show. He has great energy and was fun to work with. The look was very technical and polished. The feel for Christian’s show was Egyptian. When we met with him previous to show day, he showed us this gold metal fringe he had created to attach. At the time I was working with my favorite hairdresser Jon Reyman (who I invite anyone to visit on beautyvt.com) as we began to test different looks on the model. We settled on a strong, smooth, geometric shaped chignon with a center part. The chignon was more rectangular than round and from the profile you could see through the shape giving it a Egyptian septor look. It was very beautiful and strong for this show.

I believe right now people are getting more creative. Although hair was all over the map for this season: up, down, texture, smooth, soft, strong, shaped, natural, wigs, short, long…..I believe that instead of being concerned about following a specific look all through the shows and collections, that people were really collaborating on what felt right and looked good. Although the 80’s inspired feel rang through hair and collections this season for fall 2009, it was very individualized and creative. These looks can be altered and used for daily and evening wear. Just print out a picture take it to your favorite stylist and ask, “How can I do this at home?”
