Having lived my teen years in the 90′s, I can absolutely get into the colors of Sally Hansen’s new HD Hi-Definition Nail Color collection. Bright pops of color and neon bring me back to that girl I used to be…the one who was all about boys (still am), New Kids on the Block and jelly bracelets (and if you saw me today, you would see a neon green jelly bracelet on my wrist always!)
I first decided to try out Pixel, which is a teal color. And thanks to Suzy who is a fan on A Girl’s Gotta Spa! on Facebook, I went into this review thinking about the questions she posed to me there–![]()
How much do the polishes cost? $5.95
How well did they go on? Easy. The brush is a bit bigger than other nail polish brands I use. I also found that they dried a bit quicker, as well.
Did you use a basecoat or topcoat? Nope, I wanted to see how long the polish would last on its own.
How long did it last? I was impressed for sure. The polish lasted 5 days before it began to chip. That’s 5 days of doing the dishes, laundry, general mom duties and lots and lots of typing on the computer.
I really thought the color of the HD collection was amazing; it’s vibrant and intensely shiny. Paired with how long it lasted, I was very happy overall.
Sally Hansen is hosting a sweepstakes on their website now through September 15th, 2009 where you could win a 32 inch HD TV, iPod Nano or a Sally Hansen gift bag, check out their website for more details: www.sallyhansen.com
And I leave you with this to prove I was all about bright vibrant colors back in the day. The year was 1991 and I was at a West Warwick High School dance with some of my favorite girls (and my exchange student from Spain.) See? I wasn’t lying.

this is amazingly beautiful!! especially the color of the blues greens and hot pinks im no fan of pink but i would tottalyy wear it its daring!!
The colors are beautiful but I think I would be more likely to put them on my toes than my fingers.
Ooh! I love that teal! Nice picture as well!
i totally love this review! i’ve been waiting to get one of these but waiting for a SALE! haha im el cheapo. walgreens is now having a sale on these for $2 off. WOOHOO!
The colors look most awesome and bright. I love wearing them!
Thanks for the “nod”, Shannon! I tried the “Lite” color — the yellow — and absolutely love it. Now, this is a girl with “summer” coloring and an aversion to most “warm” toned make-up colors. In the past, I have found most yellow nail polishes too brownish, or too orange-ish, or too white and washed out. Not this one! It’s GORGEOUS!
It’s the perfect, saturated shade of lemon yellow with a lit-from-within glow to it. The “piece de resistance”? My husband told me how much he liked it — and I don’t mean I asked him if he liked my nails — he TOLD me without asking! And, actually, suggested that I wear the color AGAIN! Wow. THAT is an endorsement. Good thing it goes on smoothly, I liked it best with 2 coats of color, and lasted 5 days before chipping (I’m hard on my nails). It actually lasted longer when I did my nails myself with just 2 coats of color and no base or top coat. When I had a manicurist use it — it peeled. But frankly, I don’t think it was the HD’s fault…
I agree with Moe, these colors are fun but they are too bright for my fingers, I will gladly use them on my toes. I especially like the look of the purple, very tempting for fall, when you can still get away with open toe shoes.
Response to Suzy, I too love yellow nail polish, and every color, even the OPI has this weird tinge to it. Made my nails look a weird Jaundiced color. Wasn’t pretty, unless I used a white base color underneath. It took wayyyyy to long to do the base clear coat, then the white, then the 2-3 yellow coats to make it pop…too much. I’ll take a look at these
thanks for the review.
I love this polish, especially the hot pink for toes!
Your post touched my heartstrings.
The blue finger polish reminds me of Mamma’s final days.

Oh my gosh! I looked exactly the same as you & your friends in the eighties. We did have a lot of hair back then!
I love the purple Sally Hansen shade!
eh they are AMAZING colors…. but they take WAY TOOO many coats, and never dry…well eventually but it takes forever! Definitely don’t apply hours before bed, you will be left with blanket imprints in your polish….was a huge hassle not worth it, only looks like the color in the bottle after 4 coats. The only good thing is because the product was noted as horrible cvs and walgreens have been selling them off color by color for under $3 on clearance. So If you are going to waste you’re money go the drug stores and get it NYC cheap.
If I remember right, it only took me 2 coats to get the deserved color. For future uses of their polishes (and really for any polish I use) I have Zoya’s “Hurry Up” quick drying liquid that literally dries polish in seconds. Have you tried it? It’s pretty awesome. I wrote about it in this post: http://agirlsgottaspa.com/blog/2009/10/review-zoya-nail-polish-color-lock-system
