Oh boy do I love me some clay facial masks. Having oily, blemish-prone skin can be a real PIA. And it seems that since including bangs into my hairstyle back in March, my forehead seems to be worse than ever. So I was completely enthused to have the chance to try out Chella’s Balancing Clay Mask with hectorite clay and copper, both said to do wonders for your skin. But what really got me intrigued is that it also contains seaweed, which is super fantastic for your skin.
Chella’s Balancing Clay Mask is targeted to both acne prone skin as well as those with sensitive skin. There is no fragrance to the mask, so for those of you who need fragrance-free products, this will be good for you. Most masks should only be used 1-2 times per week, however Chella’s gives the green light for 2-3. But do what is best for your skin type because you’ve got to remember that overdoing it can actually cause you to overproduce sebum. So I simply stick with 2 times per week.
After 15 minutes, I rinsed it off and my skin felt super soft and so much better than feeling like an oil slick. I followed it up with Chella’s Moisture Formula SPF 15.
Are you a fan of clay masks like me? If you’ve tried Chella’s what did you think?

I am with you on the oily break prone skin… It seems to get worse and worse each year. After I grew out my bangs, my forehead cleaned up significantly, though! I have tried a liquid clay cleanser by CO Bigelow (got it on sale at Bath/Body Works), and it is nice but stingy. I think there are some other ingredients that contribute the stinginess. This cleanser helps with oil control, but I cannot say much about acne control. if your skin is not sensitive , i would recommend hunting for it at BBW- it was $3 for a large bottle
Anna S. - August 21st, 2009 at 12:12 pmGenerally speaking, I hate masks. I can still remember my mother with this green goup on her face (Mint Julep ? maybe? in a jar though, not a tube…) Anyways, I grew up with BAD acne and tried every clay/medicated/etc mask out there. This is what I think of them: Have you ever had an order of french fries? Have they ever been really oily? Have you ever thought you’d be really clever and blot them with some paper or cloth napkins to absorb the excess oil? Well, that’s what a clay mask is to me — it “blots” up the currently excess oil but does nothing for what’s really in there. No harm, but purely temporary. Now, I must admit that living here in Phoenix with my oily skin, sometimes I get surface dryness and I will use a moisturizing mask to pump up the moisture, temporarily — but on a very, very rare occasion.
Suzy - August 21st, 2009 at 12:25 pmSuzy, sounds like you should try Renee Rouleau’s Anti-Cyst Treatment…it is her best seller for oily/acne prone skin. And regardless if your skin is oily–you should always moisturize. It’s not the moisturizer or oils that make you oiler at all.
In full disclosure, Renee is a client of mine, but I truly believe she is the foremost expert on skin care.
Here’s some posts of hers you should read:

I know she has a few skin tips coming up regarding oily skin, so def. subscribe to her blog. Her tips are always helpful!
Shannon - August 21st, 2009 at 1:32 pmI would really love to try this mask! I think it would work on my back as well, since I break out from working out with a sports bra!
Jennifer C. - August 22nd, 2009 at 10:45 amI’ve not tried Chella’s
Heck, I’ve not tried a MASK!
But my skin would love pampering
so I just gotta’ ask:
Does it work on dry skin?
Daphne - August 22nd, 2009 at 3:21 pmOr just oily? Or plain?
(Cuz I’d love to be moisturized
without sending cash down the drain!)
I have combination skin but this would be great for my T zone.
