I am a strong believer in giving back. I also feel that since I have this platform of visibility, it is important that I spotlight charities that have meaning in my life. I hope this not only tells you more about me, but encourages you to get involved in these charities as well.
One Child Too Many is a Northeast PA charity founded by Robbin Kizer after her son, Brendan, passed away from Burkitt’s Leukemia at age 17. I knew Brendan, and as a mom, this charity is close to my heart.
Links of Love Disability Ministry was founded by my sister, Courtney Smith, to help families who have children with special needs. Not only does Links of Love operate in Family Worship Center in Lansdale, PA, but she now works with Peaceful Living to teach other churches how to implement this same disability support service in their churches, regardless of denomination/religious affiliation.
Alex’s Lemonade Stand is another children’s cancer charity that I support. Living in a cancer cluster means always hearing about children in my area dying from cancer. The work they do is important to the children and the families involved.
In January of 2006 I had a miscarriage. The March of Dimes is important to me for this
very reason.
Tithe10 is a concept created by Pam and Donny Beaver of Central PA’s Homewaters Club/Cara Mor Spa. They donate 10% of all lodging and fishing assets for charitable activites. They’ve been able to support programs like Casting For Breast Cancer Recovery, Project Healing Waters for wounded veterans, Traumatic Brain Injury Retreats by Frontline
Ministries, Vail Valley Foundation, and Community
Agriculture Alliance & Yampatika in Steamboat. As a Christian myself, I believe in Tithing and I love when other businesses make it part of company culture to do the same.
Mom: Get Glamorous! was conceived in 2007 and is A Girl’s Gotta Spa!‘s annual (May) nationwide contest to find the most deserving mom to award with a fashion and beauty grand prize. It recognizes the woman who is not only an outstanding mother, but a fantastic role model to her children because of feats she has overcome, her involvement in the community or accomplishments made. As a mom of 4, this is my way to give back on a personal level.
