First of all, a big thank you to Shannon for asking me to write this post and to review the brand new mascara from my favourite mascara make-up brand : No7′s Lash Adapt.

Lash Adapt claims to allow you to apply up to six coats of mascara with no clumping and thereby take your look from office to bar in one – or six (!) – easy steps.

I decided to try out the theory when going out for dinner with some girlfriends. I wore one coat of the mascara for the day at work. The brush is thick, which I like, but the bristles are well defined with helps to separate the lashes and define them.

After work I added an extra coat of mascara and was pleased to find that it didn’t clump and in fact made a real difference to the look of my eye make-up. I really did make my lashes look longer and fuller and opened my eyes up more than ever.

To be honest, after seeing the result after two coats, I’m tempted to go for two coats on a normal work day.

In the pictures, I’m also wearing No 7′s Limited Edition for Autumn Double Ended Pencil in Dark Brown-Ivory and their Stay Perfect Eye Shadow in Mink which I find great for giving a base of colour for my every day work look.

Back in October when A Girl’s Gotta Spa! had its 4 year blogiversary party in New York City, Andrea Pomerantz Lustig from Glamour and I had lunch with Purple Lab’s Creatrix, Karen Robinovitz. (Of course in full disclosure, if you know me and have read this blog long enough, you know that Karen is a friend and someone I work with.) While sitting across from her, we both couldn’t help but remark on her eyelashes. Andrea and I agreed that we thought she was wearing false lashes. And with a big grin Karen explained to us that it was her new eyelash product that would be debuting on HSN in February and she kept hush hush on the details. So I waited with baited breath for the launch.

The night Purple Lab took to HSN, I immediately placed my order online. 

Lashionista Modelista is yet another double duty beauty product, as are the rest of the products in the Purple Lab makeup line. One end of the tube is a liquid eyeliner with diamond dust and the other end is a tubing mascara. The liquid liner glides on with its felt tip applicator. The diamond dust is mixed in with the formula and is not clumpy. I love the glimmer it gives and it is that extra oomph that make you look like a starlette.

If you are not familiar with tubing mascara, it is not the typical mascara formula where you are prone to smudging and flaking. It looks like regular mascara on the wand and applies looking the same, the only difference is that once on your lashes it bonds itself forming a tube around your lashes. No, it’s not heavy and you won’t look like you are wearing little tubes (and yes people have asked me because they’ve never used tubing mascara.) This also means that if you fell asleep with this mascara on, you won’t wake up finding it all over pillow or your face.

In my quest for the ultimate mascara, I’ve had my eye on Givenchy’s Phenomen’Eyes Effet Extension. It has a unique brush that differentiates it from many of the other department store brands. Givenchy’s hi-tech brush extends individual lashes for eye widening effects with a precision designed spherical brush—adding volume with a no-time-to-waste quick dry formula for full blown fluttering drama. It is a bit pricey at $29. 

One thing that intrigued me is the shade of violet that the forumla is available in. It is a limited-edition color and is named “Purple Impression”. I have been seeing more and more shades of purple eye color for spring. I haven’t yet delved in to the non-black mascaras, yet but I will be trying purple this spring when the weather warms up. This shade is dark enough not to look garish or costume-y as would a shade of blue. I plan to layer this over my regular shade of black mascara as well, for a subtle purple/black effect. L’Oreal recently sent me the newest addition to their line up of mascara’s: Telescopic Explosion. I will start off by telling you that I do indeed like this mascara, but I will burst your bubble if you think your lashes will look like Penelope Cruz’s on their website (around these parts, we call that PhotoShop and/or eyelash extensions.) Aside from that, let’s talk about why I loved Telescopic Explosion and how it made my lashes pop…

First let’s take the wand. It resembles Givenchy’s Phenom’Eyes, except it is more wallet friendly. The round tip and bristles also have the lash separating effect that we have come to know over the last 2 years as mascara wands have evolved.

Second, this mascara captures every lash, big and small, from the inner point of your eye all the way over to the outer point. In combination with covering each lash and separating the lashes, I found that my lashes looked flirtier and added that POW to them.

For only around $7, I have to say that L’Oreal definitely delivers great results that are worth more than the purchase price. Have you tried it?

I have been a fan of Dr.Hauschka‘s line of skin care products for years. I love how the natural ingredients feel on my skin, not to mention the lovely scent of the products. This is a fabulous organic mascara and I also love that it helps to fortify my lashes with extracts of eyebright, neem and black tea.

As I sit here on this August afternoon shivering my behind off because it is only 59 degrees (!) I am reminded that in the next few weeks it’ll be time to start wearing fall colors. With Rimmel’s Glam’Eyes Lash Flirt Mascara, I felt like I had the longest lashes! I probably only swiped each set of eyelashes two or three times and I could already feel a difference. I went away on vacation for about a week and this mascara was great for touch-ups and it was nice to have it with me on the airplane, too. I could just whip it right out, apply a few swipes of this mascara and it felt good as new.

You know, my lashes felt so flirty, you could almost feel the wind they were making every time I blinked. They’re like fans!

Also, with other mascaras I have tried over the years, they end up fading away and not even lasting for a few hours let alone a full day. With Rimmel’s mascara, every time I looked in the mirror, I can tell that the mascara is still there, making my eyelashes stand out and really pop!

I’ve tried out the original LashBlast when it first came out, and while I wasn’t too impressed at first, I eventually warmed up to it. If you are anything like me, then you are endlessly searching for “the one,” that holy grail of mascara. Is CoverGirl LashBlast Length the one?

While LashBlast Length isn’t it, I still liked it and think it’s pretty darn good for a $7 drugstore brand. As you can see from the picture, the applicator is pretty long and it separates your lashes leaving you clump-free. The formula itself contains nylon fibers that attach to your lashes to create the look of natural looking length. It definitely lived up to its claims of being smudge and smear proof.

I don’t wear contacts, so I’m not sure if this mascara is safe for contact wearers due to the nylon fibers. If you fall into that category please do share in the comments what your experience with this mascara was like.
