Fleur & Bee Rose and Shine Rose Water Toner

Courtney Smith BSN

I recently had the opportunity to try out Fleur & Bee's Rose and Shine Refreshing Rose Water Toner - that you must hear about!

Fleur & Bee is a company known for their stance on creating 100% natural, non-toxic skincare products that are Leaping Bunny certified cruelty free.

What I also would like to note before diving into this review, is that they are a company who gives back to support and empower women. 1% of all
sales goes to the distribution of menstrual hygiene products to girls in need.

This is such an untouched area of need in this country, and especially in financially destitute countries.

Many do not realize the absolute need for access to these products and/or the positive impact on health and well-being, infection control, and even self-worth of a woman.

The fact that Fleur & Bee appreciates the need and impact, as well as follows through on supporting this need, tells me from the door that they are an action-oriented company who puts their money where their mouth is.

What is Toner?

Toner creates homeostasis of your complexion by balancing ph levels. It works to reduce the appearance of your pores and removes residual impurities not removed by cleansers.

It is considered an essential element in your skin care regime and an absolute in skin care health.

Rose and Shine Refreshing Rose Water Toner Review

Rose and Shine Refreshing Rose Water Toner is made of 2 highly effective and 100% natural ingredients; Purified water and Rosa Damascena flower oil.

This toner is paraben free, sulfate free, gluten free, non-GMO, and it's 100% vegan.

This is not only an effective product, it is a product ideal for allergy sufferers, those with sensitive skin or other health conditions where toxins can negatively impact other major organs, vegans, vegetarians, and over-all pursuers of health and wellness and, well, beautiful skin!

It comes in an easy to use spritz bottle, which is sized for your hand, making it comfortable to hold. It's also only 2 floz, making it TSA friendly.

It smells AMAZING!!!! It felt like I was spraying a luscious rose on my face without leaving a weird or bad taste sitting in my mouth.

My skin felt oh-so-refreshed and clean! I looove my make-up, so sometimes even after using a cleanser I feel like my skin wasn’t as clean as it could be.

Note: I suffer with plaque psoriasis so it's best to leave NO foothold for breakouts or inflammatory responses on my face.

That said, when I used Rose and Shine my face felt the cleanest it had ever felt, the color of my complexion appeared balanced, and well I felt like I not only smelled fresh, but looked fresh with a feeling of glow!

And, yes, I am all about the glow!

When Should You Use Toner?

Use toner after cleansing and before moisturizing. As far as frequency is concerned, use it once in the morning and once at night.

How Does Rose Water Toner Work?

Rosa Damascenca flower oil is an essential oil made from the damask rose plant. The purified water is present to dilute the oil so that it does not cause irritation and is used safely in a 1:1 ratio mix.

The top 3 skin benefits of rosa damascenca essential oil found in the Rose and Shine Toner include:

  • Anti-inflammatory benefits: Helps with anti-aging, appearance of skin complexion, reduced redness.
  • Antimicrobial benefits: Assists with the cleansing on a micro bacterial level to prevent infection and fight acne.
  • Antioxident benefits: Supports anti-aging and skin health/appearance by destroying free radicals.

Free radicals promote injurious behavior to skin tissue, thereby creating those awful age lines and wrinkles…bring on the antioxidants folks!

TWO added bonuses that I MUST mention:

  • Aromatherapy benefits: Reduced anxiety and depression for an overall calm feeling and mental wellness.
  • Aphrodisiac benefits: Increases libido and makes you feel damn sexy!!!

OMG, now I understand my sensory experience of feeling balanced, clean, and GLOWING!!!

In summary, Fluer & Bee is a good company, great mission, non-toxic, cruelty-free, effectively makes you feel like a million bucks, and more importantly fulfills the purpose of toner in the most top notch of ways.

Essential Oil Blends for Happiness

Shannon Smyth
Essneital oil blends for happiness. #essentialoils #wellness #happiness Who wouldn’t want to be happier? Between social media, the internet and television, we’re constantly bombarded with negativity that makes it hard to stay joyful. We also push ourselves so hard that there never seems to be any time to take a break. Whatever the reason, many people wish they were happier. While there are many lifestyle changes you can make, there are also essential oils that can be very beneficial. Let’s take a closer look at essential oil blends for happiness.

Improve your mood. Create your own blend from these oils:

Orange

It is almost impossible to not smile when you smell orange oil. It’s an invigorating scent that lifts the spirits and energy levels. You can also use grapefruit and lime oils – citrus oils are a mood booster.

Caraway

With a spicy slightly sweet scent, caraway promotes happiness by soothing the nerves and encouraging positive thoughts. The scent also gives you a boost of energy.

Lavender

Those dealing with depression can greatly benefit from the calming effects of lavender oil. Lavender calms while also lifting the spirits.

Lemon

Is another great oil that energizes the mind and promotes positivity. (You can find it in our body wash.)

Bergamot

There are times when anger, resentment, and other ill feelings can prevent us from being happy. Bergamot oil allows us to let go of those negative feelings.

Rosemary

Not only is the scent of rosemary essential oil absolutely amazing but it has anti-depressant properties. Combining rosemary with lemon oil would be a wonderful blend.

Geranium

With a fragrance similar to rose, geranium oil provides a host of benefits. Not only does it calm, but it also uplifts and strengthens. If you happen to be suffering from mood swings due to menopause, geranium oil is very beneficial. (You can find it in our rollerball perfume, Soar.) Essential oil blends for happiness. #happiness #essentialoils #wellbeing You can create your own blend of oils. The important thing is to find a scent you enjoy. Blend the oils so that you can create a blend with beneficial properties. Essential oil blends can be used with a diffuser, in beauty products, or simply with a carrier oil. If you’re using essential oils with a carrier oil on the skin, remember to always do a spot check. You want to make sure you don’t have a reaction to any of the oils before using on a regular basis. We all go through moments of unhappiness. However, if you are dealing with depression on a regular basis, you should consult a professional who can help. Subscribe to A Girl’s Gotta Spa! beauty blog. Essential Oil Blends for Stress Relief

Shannon Smyth
List of essential oils for stress. #essentialoils #stressfree Millions of Americans are walking around with at least some level of stress. While stress has become more and more common in today’s lifestyle, one thing remains the same. Stress can negatively affect your health. High blood pressure, headaches, sleep changes, muscle pain and tension, and digestive issues can all be caused by stress. Chances are you’re reading this post because you’re currently dealing with stress. You’re not alone. Many people find stress hard to handle. One thing you may not have considered is the power of essential oil blends for stress relief. Let’s take a closer look.

Essential Oils to Use for Stress Relief

You can blend any of these oils to create your own blend. The important thing is to find a blend that you enjoy the fragrance of so that you can reap the benefits of the oils without hating the scent. Lavender – Lavender is one of the most recommended oils when it comes to stress relief. The scent is soothing, but the properties of the oil actually help support the nervous system. This can help reduce the feelings of anxiety that come with stress. If stress causes you to lose sleep, consider using lavender oil before bedtime. You can even create a lavender spray using equal parts rubbing alcohol and water along with lavender oil. Spray your pillow 15 to 20 minutes before bed to allow your pillow to dry before laying down. Ylang Ylang – Ylang ylang works to calm the nervous system and reduce cortisol levels. Not only that, but the oil also replaces the feelings of anxiety with feelings of optimism and positivity. Ylang ylang is popping up more and more in body washes, lotions, and other skin products to make it easier to reap the benefits. BergamotBergamot oil can also help reduce stress. It is recommended to blend the oil with lavender oil to create a stress relief blend. One thing to keep in mind is that exposure to the sun when using bergamot can cause a reaction. It is best to use the oil in the evening and not be in the sun for 12 hours after. ChamomileChamomile is well known for it’s sleep inducing properties. The oil helps remove feelings of stress and replaces them with feelings of peace. Do not use this essential oil if you are allergic to ragweed. VetiverVetiver should be considered in a stress relief blend for serious stress. The oil is often used to help trauma patients. It also helps with panic attacks, jitters, and hypersensitivity. You will feel a sense of tranquility when using this oil. RoseRose oil is, to many, hands down the most effective essential oil for dealing with stress. It is recommended to use it in aromatherapy situations. An equal blend of rose, lavender, and bergamot oil will greatly increase the stress reducing effects of the rose oil. Smell each essential oil and create a blend that smells good to you. You can use skin products that have essential oils. You can use a diffuser. You can even apply the oils to the skin once mixed with a carrier oil. Always test oils on your skin before applying heavily. There can be allergic reactions. Also be careful of essential oil use around pets who may be sensitive to the scents. Subscribe to A Girl’s Gotta Spa! beauty blog. Best Essential Oils for Anxiety

Shannon Smyth
Best essential oils for anxiety. Anxiety affects all of us at one time or another. For some, it creeps up in middle school when we are given a major assessment. For others, it appears suddenly when we bring home our sleepy newborns from the hospital. Anxiety takes away our peace and leaves us feeling broken. Thankfully, there are some things that we can do to help alleviate the weight of anxiety. To be clear, I'm talking anxiety from everyday stressors. As someone who holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, I absolutely recognize that an anxiety disorder is a major mental health issue that should be addressed by a psychologist/psychiatrist. I first discovered essential oils in my early 20's (so 20 something cough cough years ago.) A good friend of mine had cancer and in order to relieve headaches after chemo and to destress, she would rub eucalyptus oil on her temples then down along her cheek bones to her sinuses and back to the temples. Curious, I asked her if she could try it on me. I was surprised at how well it worked. She gave me the bottle, which I still hold onto since her passing, as a reminder of that day. When formulating A Girl's Gotta Spa! bath and body products, adding essential oils were an obvious choice. I truly believe in their benefits. Essential oils can be used for everything from medical ailments to keeping bugs out of your home. I personally love them to help me sleep, focus or destress from daily anxiety. Best essential oils for anxiety. I've rounded up 5 essential oils that can help aid in reducing those every day levels of anxiety: When placed in a diffuser, Lavender Oil has a calming effect on those who inhale it. This is a great essential oil for relaxation. Frankincense Oil is known for its natural anti-depressant properties. This is a good essential oil to keep on hand if you suffer from anxiety attacks. Chamomile is known for its ability to reduce stress hormones (we use chamomile in our plant-based body wash.) It’s also a wonderful sleep aid. Oranges are good for more than just your daily vitamin C intake. Orange Oil has a positive effect on people in stress-inducing situations. It's an uplifting oil and a great way to wake up your senses and/or boost your mood. You'll find this essential oil in our rollerball perfume and bath and body products for this very reason. Ylang Ylang Oil is a great oil to use topically. When applied with a carrier oil to the skin, it will leave you feeling calm and relaxed. There are several ways that you can use these essential oils to aid in reducing anxiety, such as placing them in a diffuser or by using a portable diffuser, such as the kind from Corked. There's aromatherapy jewelry that can be worn all day and roll on applicators you can apply directly to your palms and breathe in. It's become easier than ever to find a way to incorporate essential oils into your lifestyle. If you’ve ever used essential oils to reduce anxiety or another ailment, I’d love to hear about it! Corked Portable Aromatherapy Diffuser Review

Shannon Smyth
Corked portable aromatherapy device review on @agirlsgottaspa #gotcorked #aromatherapy #essentialoils Essential oils have come a long way in how they are viewed and used. What was once considered an "alternative" therapy, has now become more mainstream. I personally use essential oils in A Girl's Gotta Spa! products, I've worn aromatherapy jewelry, each night my husband and I use our Gurunanda Aromatherapy Diffuser to help us sleep and now portable aromatherapy devices have piqued my interest. OK, OK, before I am corrected...piqued my son's interest. My just shy of 16 year old son, Connor, brought it to my attention. Connor has always dealt with anxiety issues and expressed interest in seeing if a portable aromatherapy device would help. I decided that this would be a product we'd try together, especially since there aren't any studies that show conclusive evidence that drawing in essential oils and vitamins into your mouth via a device like this, offer any true benefit. That said, I also know this it is relatively new ground and essential oils in general have been used forever for their medicinal properties.  Corked portable aromatherapy device review on @agirlsgottaspa #gotcorked #aromatherapy #essentialoils First, what is Corked? It's a portable aromatherapy device that diffuses a blend of vitamins (B12), minerals and essential oils. A portable aromatherapy device is not an e-cigarette. There is no nicotine and you do not inhale the blend into your lungs. Corked portable aromatherapy device review on @agirlsgottaspa #gotcorked #aromatherapy #essentialoils So how do you use it? You draw in the vapor through the device like you would use a straw, hold it in your mouth for a few seconds and then exhale it through your nose. You will both smell and taste the blend at the same time. If this is your first time using a device like this, you may cough a little or exhale it through your mouth on accident. You only take a max amount of 2-3 puffs per day, up to 3 times per day. Each device lasts approximately 250-300 puffs or about 2 months when used correctly. As you are sucking in the vapor from the device, the end lights up blue so that you know its working. Corked portable aromatherapy device review on @agirlsgottaspa #gotcorked #aromatherapy #essentialoils What we thought: I allowed Connor to use Corked only under my supervision and made sure he understood how to and how many times he could use it. There are no formal age restrictions required by law for using this device, however Corked does encourage anyone who may be under 18 to make sure that their parents/guardians are OK with them using it. We also made sure to speak to his psychiatrist first to get his OK to give it a try. He decided to try Trance, Alive and Mindful (their Mix of the Month.) He only used it twice per day - Alive (or Mindful) when he got home from school and Trance about 30 minutes before bed time. He really likes the fragrance of them and had no complaints about taste either. Alive: Lemon, thyme, vanilla, vitamin B12 and 12 other essential oils. Trance: Lavender, sweet marjoram, valerian, vitamin B12 and 11 other essential oils. Mindful: Clary sage, Frankincense, lavender, and ylang ylang. He felt that Trance had the most noticable effect on him, where he felt more relaxed. He told me that each night he used it, he slept through the night (which is uncommon for him) and on the one night he forgot to use it, he woke up that night. As he said to me, "I don't know if that is a placebo effect or real, but either way, it seems to be working for me." (You can tell when a child's mother has their Psych degree because their kids throw around phrases like "placebo effect.") I chose Meditate, Ecstacy and Refresh. My days are often chaotic and require so much adrenaline that it can drain me. I thought these might be a good fit to help make the day feel more stable mood-wise. Meditate: Frankincense, orange, ylang ylang and vitamin B12, plus 16 other essential oils. Ecstacy: Cinnamon leaf, geranium, lemon, vitamin B12 and 9 other essential oils. Refresh: Copaiba, mandarin, turmeric, vitamin B12 and 12 other essential oils. It took a little getting used to for the taste of Meditate, but it did give me a sense of balance. If you love cinnamon, then Ecstacy is for you. I didn't taste/smell the other oils in this one, which is fine because I do like cinnamon. Interestingly, Refresh is meant to help with pain issues, not necessarily perk you up. I have arthritis and bursitis in my hips (yay me), so I definitely welcomed trying something that wasn't a pill. I have to use it more than a few times to see if it really has an effect, so the jury is still out on this one. Aside from these 6, there is also Mix Your Mood where you customize your Corked blend. I like that all of the diffusers, with the exception of the Mix of the Month, have B12 in them. You might want to check out our other post - Do I need to get B12 shots? Many of us are vitamin B12 deficient, and this vitamin is essential for sustainable energy and focus. Now again, I have to mention that there haven't been any studies as to whether or not breathing in B12 has any effect, so can I say conclusively that it worked? No, I can only report how both my son and I felt using the Corked diffusers. This was our first time ever using essential oils in this way and it was interesting. It's definitely easy, doesn't require much of a committment of your time and the packaging is stylish. Essentially anyone can use Corked. However, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or if you have allergies or sensitivities, you are advised not to use Corked. If you have other health issues, always consult your doctor. Bath Time: Fizz & Bubble Bath Truffles

Gail Lewis
Oh-so-good bath truffles from Fizz & Bubble via @agirlsgottaspa Winter is most definitely not my favorite season as I have a serious love affair with everything summer. That being said, there are a few winter beauty rituals that I really do enjoy and actually look forward to, such as baths. During winter I love pampering myself with cozy warm steaming baths, using oils, salts and bath teas to make the experience as relaxing as possible. Thanks to Fizz & Bubble dessert-inspired bath products, my baths this winter have been both relaxing and incredibly decadent! Fizz & Bubble “foaming truffles” are just as indulgent as the name suggests.  They  contain an 8-oil blend and are "drowned" in shea butter which makes them super moisturizing. They also contain vitamins, and safe coloring that won’t stain tubs or your skin and are all handmade, all-natural and cruelty-free. The truffles smell incredible.  The scents are relaxing and soothing and not at all overly sweet or overpowering.  I am a sucker for beautiful packaging and love the fun, vibrant hot pink box that the foaming truffles are packaged in, it's perfect for gifting.  I will admit the truffles are so beautiful I didn't want to use them and they sat in my bathroom for a while just beautifying the place. I was, however, tempted to take a bite, but thankfully I managed to restrain myself. Fizz & Bubble truffles are available at ULTA stores nationwide and online at www.FizzandBubble.com. Erbaviva Organic Deodorant Review

Shannon Smyth
Discovered @erbaviva organic deodorants through @lillysbathcarry - check out the review on @agirlsgottaspa Mention "organic deodorant" and you may get a few raised eyebrows combined with some skepticism. People often wonder - Does organic deodorant smell weird? Is it strong enough? What exactly is it made of? I'm going to be straight up honest, I've never tried organic deodorant before simply because I didn't think it would have staying power. After talking with the owner of Lilly's Bathcarry one day, which in full transparency is an A Girl's Gotta Spa! retailer, she convinced me that I should give it a shot. She recommended erbaviva, saying it was the best she's ever used. Now that I've tried it myself, I'm kicking myself for not trying it sooner. Discovered @erbaviva organic deodorants through @lillysbathcarry - check out the review on @agirlsgottaspa I tried erbaviva Lemon & Sage Organic Deodorant and Jasmine & Grapefruit. Pictured is the travel size, which is 1 floz, but she also has full size, which is 3.4 floz. If you've never tried this type of deodorant before and are unsure, then I recommend going with the travel size because it is only $7, but lasts a good long time. Something I loved right away about erbaviva is that you don't need a degree to understand the ingredients, pure and simple - it's essential oils in organic grain alcohol. I'm not used to spritzing on my deodorant, so that took some getting used to, because you don't want to over do it (or under do it and smell bad.) I found that I only needed 3 spritzes for it to be effective enough for me. Also, a helpful tip - if you've just shaved, wait a little bit before spraying because the alcohol will sting. Fragrance-wise, I thought Lemon & Sage would be my favorite since I love lemon scents. Lemon & Sage smells good, a very clear and clean lemon mixed with an earthy sage aroma. However, Jasmine & Grapefruit became my go-to. I really like this floral-citrus combination. The scent is there for a few minutes, but then you don't notice it until... suddenly you're sweating in the heat of the day and boom. The scent is there as the ingredients are activated and working to prevent body odor. Perfect! I'm actually surprised at how much I liked this. You can find erbaviva at Lilly's Bathcarry for $7 and $20. I'd love to know if you experience trying organic deodorant for the first time was the same! Leave a comment! Aromatherapy Diffuser: Gurunanda Essential Oils

Shannon Smyth
Gurunanda Ultrasonic Aromatherapy Diffuser and essential oils review via @agirlsgottaspa One of the main things I love about walking into a spa is the calming scent that fills the air. It's like instant relaxation before your spa treatment has even begun. When I was younger, my sister used to burn incense sticks. It was all the rage back in the early 90's. To be honest, I would make fun of her for it. All these years later, I didn't realize that it was a form of aromatherapy... and now I love it, just in essential oil form. I recently received the Gurunanda Ultrasonic Essential Oil Diffuser, and honestly, I'm so in love. Some of the benefits of this aromatherapy diffuser: The diffuser itself is super lightweight. Even with water in it, which is enough for 2.5-5 hours of use, did not make it weighty. Each essential oil box has a scratch and sniff sticker so that you can sample the fragrance before purchasing. The diffuser lights up at the top - red, green and blue. You also have the option of turning the lights off. The on/off button also controls the lights and diffusing time. Press once for lights and 2.5 hours of continuous mist. Press twice to turn off lights. Press three times for 5 hours of mist every 15 seconds without lights. Pressing 4 times turns it off. Whichever amount of time you choose, the diffuser automatically shuts off after that alloted time. The diffuser has a low level white noise hum to it, so it's a little relaxing to listen to. The diffuser and the mist are not hot at all, so no worring about burns or it becoming humid in the room. The best part is that once you put a small amount of water into the chamber and two drops of your preferred essential oil, and hit the button, the mist is literally immediate. I was blown away. Having only experience with units that have to heat up, I love the fact that the ultrasonic waves have zero start up time. Talk about instant gratification. Since there is no heat involved, the integrity of the essential oils are not compromised. Gurunanda has 9 blends of essential oils. I personally love Focus (especially needed on Monday mornings, rainy days and late afternoons.) Focus is a blend of lemongrass, rosemary, and citronella. I love lemongrass; it's even in my Silk Therapeutics Purely Smooth daily firming complex. They also have Breathe Easy (eucalyptus, peppermint and lemon), which I plan to use when I'm congested or my allergies are acting up. These oils are not just for the diffuser, but can also be used in your bath, mixed with a carrier oil and massaged onto your skin and made into a room spray. Have you tried this aromatherapy diffuser? Let me know in the comments! Subscribe to A Girl’s Gotta Spa! beauty blog. Essio Aromatherapy Shower Kit Review

Gail Lewis
Essio #Aromatherapy Essential Oil Shower Pods #review #beauty #wellness #skincare via @agirlsgottaspa Being able to transform my shower into a spa-like experience is my idea of absolute bliss, so one can only imagine my elation upon hearing the words "aromatherapy shower kit." Immediately upon hearing those few words, pictures of a completely relaxed, zen-like me began dancing in my head. Needless to say, I could hardly wait to get my hands on this magical product that would allow me to turn my boring old shower time into an invigorating spa time. This magical product that I speak of is the Essio Aromatherapy Shower Kit.  The kit includes a shower arm and essential oil pods and is exceptionally easy to use...honesty it took me less an a minute to attach the arm to my shower and insert the essential oil pod. Best of all? Set up required zero tools.  After setting up was compete, all I had to do was turn on my shower water and tilt the pod into the stream of water and the essential oils began to diffuse into my shower. Essio essential oil pods #aromatherapy #wellness #skincare via @agirlsgottaspa The first Essential Oil Pod that I tried was the Breathe blend, it was minty, refreshing and soothing and contains a blend of Cedarwood Atlas, Peppermint, Lemon, Eucalyptus.  I am currently using the Unwind Essential Oil Pod, which is more of a citrusy floral scent containing a blend of Orange Sweet, Bergamot, Petitgrain, Lavender, Patchouli, Vetiver and is utterly relaxing.  Even after I get out of the shower my entire bathroom still manages to smell positively delightful. The Essential Oil Pods last for about 3-5 showers each and when you're out, refills can be ordered at Essio Online.  The Essential Oil Pods are 100% organic, pure and sourced from the finest oils in the world.  They do not contain any harsh chemicals, synthetics or additives and both the Essio arm and essential pods are also 100% recyclable and disposable. I am not quite sure how Essio managed to create Essential Oil Pods that do not leave my skin or hair with an oily residue after I get out of the shower.  This is one of the most genius products that I have tried in a very long time.  And now that I have given Essio a try, I honestly do not think I can go back to taking showers without my daily dose of Essio Aromatherapy!

Benefits of Grapefruit Essential Oil

Shannon Smyth
Benefits Pink Grapefruit Essential Oil #bodycare #skincare #beauty Aside from the fact that study after study have shown that men perceive women wearing a grapefruit fragrance to be younger than they actually are, there are many more benefits to grapefruit essential oil in skin and body care. Although, honestly, I am all over grapefruit for the youth factor alone... Pink Grapefruit is known to have a skin brightening effect, it's also rich in antioxidants like lycopene, and has a cleansing and toning effect on the skin. Grapefruit is chock full of vitamin C, and those of us aging know far too well that Vitamin C helps to fade dark spots and uneven skin tone. Amazing skin and mood-enhancing benefits of grapefruit essential oil via @agirlsgottaspa Aside from the benefits of grapefruit essential oil in body care products, the fragrance alone does wonders. It's uplifting and energizing, and can help reset your mood. Pink Grapefruit essential oil is one of the 4 citrus essential oils in A Girl's Gotta Spa!® Energizing Citrus Body WashBody Lotion and Salt Scrub. Its positive mood-enhancing ability coupled with the skin care benefits make it the perfect natural ingredient to incorporate into our moisturizing lotion and body wash.
